CAREER FAIR BLUNDER

Will Miller - 09-9-2021

I originally thought the MTSU career fair was an all day event. So I arrived around two, little did I know that everyone was packing up their things. Since it's my first year here at MTSU, I'm unfamiliar with the scheduling of events. Maybe I'll have better luck catching the next one.

This was the first time I really explored campus, I usually just go straight to class and since all my classes are in the same building, I don't have the urge to see a whole lot. It was a beautiful day all things considered, sure, I missed out on the event but it was nice to get some fresh air.

I soaked up the sun for several more minutes, packed my things up, and headed home.

READER BEWARE, YOU'RE IN FOR A SCARE

It's been awhile since my friends and I have had a Halloween themed get together! We decided that we'd get together on the first weekend of October and have an early Halloween celebration. We played tons of games including "Fear Pong" which has the same premise as beer pong except the drinks are super gross! After our games we decided to end the night with two horror classics, The Nightmare On Elm Street and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

DATING STREAMING DUO

Will Miller - 11-4-21

W: Recently, I had the opportunity to interview two Twitch streamers in the Murfreesboro area, Brock Gibson and Shyann Greene. What makes Brock and Shyann's dynamic interesting to me is that they're a couple. So, I asked them a couple of questions regarding their streams and what it's like to be streamers.

W: One of the first questions I asked Brock and Shyann was, "what is it like to stream and why do you like it?"

B: I think it's a good hobby to have, it gives you a chance to not only talk with people you're not usually able to talk to, but it also gives you a chance to sit down and just play games for as long as you want. It turns a hobby into something creative.

S: I think it's fun, it's always good to share interests with the person you're with.

W: Brock also informed me that his favorite game to play at the moment is Call Of Duty: Warzone, so I asked him why he likes it.

B: It's always different, like you can land wherever you want, you can take as many different paths as you want, use different guns, different attachments and when you mix that with a group of friends, like a squad of four, it's even more fun.

W: My last questions for Brock and Shyann had to do with any tips or tricks they had for young streamers or streamers that are just getting started.

S: Don't look at the numbers, do it because you only want to have fun. Don't do it because you're like "oh I want to get rich quick".

W: And there you have it. I'd like to thank Brock and Shyann for their time and wish them luck in future streams.

LGBT STORIES: ALLISON'S EXPERIENCE

Will Miller - 11-30-21

What are your thoughts on how sexuality is portrayed in Media?

"What I see is, there's still a novelty to depictions of any LGBTQ people in media and it's not just a foregone conclusion that a certain population of a TV show, reality show, a cooking competition, whatever it is, is going to have someone from the LGBTQ community in it and so instead it always feels like a novelty, like a look at me look at this and I just wish that whenever I come across a show where that's not the foregone conclusion and you have a cast of all different stripes and one is not more important than the other, that's what I think is missing from media today.

Have you ever experienced violence because of your sexuality?

The violence we've actually experienced was not here in Tennessee, we travel a lot and we were in Washington DC and we were walking down the street holding hands and a guy intentionally came at us and ran into us and knocked us into a wall. It's unfortunate that it happened, it's terrible but also, I think it's one of those moments that keeps us continually like really guarded.

Any tips for LGBT youth?

So when I meet kids now that are in that position and they're in middle school or high school or even younger I generally will steer them to any arts and humanities teacher, that's your best bet, someone truly in the arts, an English teacher. Often times people who deal in the humanities have a wider understanding of humanity, it's not always a given but, they're safer people and for kids in this area, I say stay far away from churches.
